The #24 Fort Hays State Baseball team outhomered the Hornets 4-3 on the way to a 15-5 run-rule victory in seven innings in Hays, Kan. on Tuesday to open up a midweek conference series. The Tigers plated the first four runs on a pair of homers before Noah Steele, Cooper Schwindt, and Jovanni Toledo tied the game with three homers in the fourth for Emporia State, but the Tigers outscored ESU 11-1 the rest of the way. The Tigers ended the game with grand slams in the sixth and seventh to force the run rule. Trent Warstler (0-3) gave up two hits and three runs in his inning of work as Hornet pitchers struggled to contain the first place Tigers who snapped E-State’s five-game winning streak. ESU (14-11, 7-7 MIAA) continues an eight-game stretch on the road beginning a three-game series at Missouri Southern Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
