There will be rain across the KVOE listening area Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, there won’t be a lot of it.
The National Weather Service expects showers through Friday, with embedded thunderstorms possible Friday night before more showers are possible Saturday. Snow showers are possible early Sunday.
Current projections have 0.25-0.50 inches of rainfall areawide through Saturday, with the best chances for rainfall through early afternoon Friday. This follows anywhere from 0.30-1.25 inches of rain Wednesday. Prior to this week, the KVOE studios had received just over an inch of rainfall since Jan. 1, along with around a foot of snow — with an estimated liquid equivalent of about an inch of rain — from January and February.
Over half the area, specifically an area west of a line from near Alta Vista to Neosho Rapids to Madison, is in moderate drought, according to the US Drought Monitor. Areas east of that line are listed as abnormally dry.
Prior to this week’s rainfall, the KVOE studios had received just over an inch of rain since New Year’s Day.
