There’s yet another reason to visit the David Traylor Zoo.
A baby ring-tailed lemur was born March 24 and announced Thursday by the city. The lemur was born to Nova and Oscar and is already being cared for by its parents and older sisters — Lily, Rose, Violet and Daisy. The baby’s gender is not yet known.
Ring-tailed lemurs are among several species of lemurs and monkeys at the zoo. Ring-tailed lemurs are native to Madagascar and are considered endangered due to the negative impacts of deforestation and the illegal pet trade market.
The zoo says people can help lemurs by being more active in practices like recycling or by donating to conservation groups like the Duke Lemur Center or Lemur Conservation Foundation.
