The annual Flint Hills Optimist Easter Egg hunt Saturday was a flurry of fun for both participants and organizers, despite cool and damp conditions for the event.
The annual hunt saw over 17,000 pieces of candy scattered throughout Jones Park and children of all ages took very little time to snatch them up. Optimist Club member Stan Fowler says the turnout did appear to be a bit smaller than in years past but it certainly did not make the event any less exciting.
Fowler adds that one of the things he enjoys most about the event is getting to see the parents who took part in the event when they were children, getting to make the same memories with their children.
As always, after scouring the park for sugary sweets, families were able to get a picture with the Easter Bunny, who was in attendance to take in the fun.
The hunt in Jones Park was just one of many taking place across the local area. This includes a hunt hosted by Project Playscape in Americus City Park. Emporia Main Street also hosted a non-traditional egg hunt Friday in downtown Emporia, where 3-D printed eggs, courtesy of the Main Street Fabrication Lab, were hidden along Commercial Street from Third to 12th.
