It’s the last hurrah for a significant local fundraiser this week.
Laps 4 Landon has been benefiting cystic fibrosis research and care for 18 years after Landon Dody, the event’s namesake, was diagnosed with CF. Longtime organizer Dr Jennifer Thomas says the event developed through a lengthy friendship between her and Dody’s mother, Blythe, and the origins of the event started after the death of the Dodys’ first son, Lawson. Plans changed after Landon was born and was listed as failure to thrive before his CF diagnosis.
Dody’s dad, Aron Dody, says Landon has come a long ways from the raft of medical issues he had when he was young, but Landon also has medical issues most people don’t see.
Since Laps 4 Landon began, the event has also honored other areawide with CF, including Aiden Dreier and Ren Dubree. It has also generated well over $100,000 for CF research since it began.
On-site activities will be at Emporia State University, starting at 6 pm at the Student Recreation Center and including a walk, sports activities through the ESU Health and Human Performance students and ESU athletes, dinner through Lazy Butt BBQ, music, a prize table and other happenings. A special online auction is available for viewing now at the Laps for Landon 2025 Silent Auction Facebook page and goes live at 8 am Tuesday.
