The Emporia State baseball team fell after allowing Fort Hays State to score seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on the way to a 12-4 victory in Hays on Tuesday. The Tigers swept the midweek series winning each game by at least seven runs. FHSU never trailed going in front 5-0 through seven, but the Black & Gold tightened up the game with a three-run eighth thanks to a single by Logan Myers and a double by Peyton Lewis, but the Tigers responded with five hits in the bottom of the inning to put the Hornets away. Myers went 3-for-5 for the Hornets while Lewis and Brady Unrein each had two hits. ESU went with Nick Woodcock as the opener and he was effective lasting two innings giving up just one hit in two shutout innings. ESU (21-20, 14-16 MIAA) returns home for their three-game Senior Day series against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. and all three games will be aired on the Hornet Sports Network/Mix 104.9.
