Kansas Second District Congressman Derek Schmidt sees a more targeted approach in the future as the Department of Government Efficiency continues its work.
Government efficiency was one of several topics addressed as part of Schmidt’s monthly appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show.
Schmidt says the DOGE approach is “maturing” and will be more “predictable” over time.
Schmidt also referenced tariffs, which have been announced and retracted — either fully or partially — at times over the last two months. While China has secured some new trade agreements with American trade partners, Schmidt says trade deals of note are coming for the United States. Concerns remain about the possible impact of tariffs on American consumers, notably with higher prices.
Schmidt also discussed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which is designed to mandate proof of citizenship for people registered to vote in federal elections — thus changing the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
Republicans in Congress have taken some heat in town hall meetings the past few months on veterans matters and social matters. Schmidt says veterans resources should be redirected from “back shop” matters to frontline needs. Schmidt also says there is division across the country in general terms, but a lot of that is overblown.
Schmidt’s Morning Show interviews are the last Friday of the month at 8:20 am.
