The intersection of 15th and Prairie is now open to traffic as the city’s 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project continues.
The city reopened the intersection Monday as the overall project nears its end over the next four to five weeks.
In the meantime, the city has closed 12th and Prairie to all traffic as crews connect the new 24-inch water main to the existing main under the intersection. There will be a signed detour for vehicles, with westbound heavy trucks needing to go north on Merchant to 15th. Heavy trucks on the west side of the construction zone and needing to go east can take 15th or US Highway 50.
This is expected as a 3- to 4-week project.
The opening of Prairie at 15th and the closing of Prairie at 12th is about a week behind schedule after the 15th and Prairie intersection had issues with a pressure test on April 18.
