Now that the regular schedule is completed, Emporia State Theatre is looking forward to its summer 2025 schedule — and some changes beyond that.
This summer has two performances: “Junie B Jones Is Not A Crook” from June 13-15 and “Spring Awakening: The Musical” from June 27-29. Theatre Director Aubrey Wilson wants to re-expand the schedule to the long-held standard of four summer performances.
The summer schedule will also be different than in years past, with a Friday night show, two performances Saturday and a Sunday matinee.
To make the changes happen, ESU Theatre has started a fundraising campaign — in part to give participants “a livable wage.”
Wilson says the $10,000 “Up With Theatre” campaign has generated $5,300. Besides performer salaries, funds will also help with set construction, performance rights and other needs.
The theater department is getting ready for its 71st season of summer theater. In the program’s early years, the summer schedule actually had eight shows before going to six performances between 1959-1979. Four shows became the norm in 1980 before the schedule shrank to one show during the COVID-19 pandemic.
