The Emporia Municipal Airport and Eureka’s Milliken Airport are receiving state funds for upcoming or ongoing improvements.
The Emporia Municipal Airport is getting over $600,000 in total, $391,000 to rehab the south apron and another $208,000 to both relocate and upgrade the facility’s fuel system.
Milliken Airport, meanwhile, gets over $385,000 to design and build runway lights as well as to rehab its Precision Approach Path Indicator system.
This funding comes through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program, which offers funds for rehabilitation, planning and construction projects at public-use general aviation facilities. This round of funding includes almost $15 million and nearly 50 projects across the state, focusing on safety, pavement preservation and air ambulance access. Local governments need to match anywhere from 10-50 percent of the overall cost, depending on the project.
