The Hornets gave up a pair of runs in the first and second and never led in a 10-6 loss in game one of their final series of the regular season at Northwest Missouri on Thursday. The Hornets fought back with two runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly and a Cooper Schwindt RBI single, but the Bearcats got them right back with two runs in the fifth. The Hornets got as close as one with a four-run eighth inning but Northwest put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Cade Barton (5-3) lasted 5.0 innings and gave up seven hits and six runs to take the loss. Peyton Lewis and Sammy Padilla each went 2-for-4 while Logan Myers increased his hitting streak to 13 while Noah Steele’s 10-game hitting streak was snapped after he went 0-for-2. Game two Friday begins at 2:00 p.m.
