Ongoing work on Emporia’s 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project will mean a relatively expansive water outage for customers in west Emporia on Tuesday.
The city says there will be an outage lasting most of the day involving both customers along the following streets:
*Prairie from Ninth to 12th
*Twelfth from Luther to Sunnyslope
*Beverly Street to Gloria Street
*Gloria Avenue
Crews are a week into a roughly 3- to 4-week project to connect the city’s new 24-inch water main underneath Prairie to the existing line at 12th. A signed detour continues for heavy trucks from 12th and Merchant north to 15th, west to Industrial and south to US Highway 50 if needed.
Once the 24th and Prairie project ends later this month, attention shifts to the Southeast Transmission Project, taking new waterline from 12th and Garfield to the city’s water tower near South and Carter. Construction could last into late 2026 with the Southeast project.
