An Emporia semi driver was involved in an injury crash in southeast Kansas on Wednesday.
The crash happened around 5:15 pm on US Highway 400 near the junction with US-169 in Montgomery County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 34-year-old Joel Amos of Emporia was westbound on US-400, while an SUV driven by 78-year-old Patricia Pickering of Pittsburg was eastbound on the highway. Troopers say Pickering’s SUV crossed the center line for unlisted reasons. Amos went to the westbound shoulder as an evasive maneuver, only to have Pickering move to the same area. Pickering’s SUV hit the Amos semi and attached trailer.
Pickering was taken to Labette Health in Parsons with suspected minor injuries. Amos was not hurt. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
