It was a special day in the circle for Emporia High junior Alivia Barrett Friday night at Peter Pan Park against Wichita West in the Emporia Softball Classic.
Barrett recorded eight strikeouts, including her 100th of the season in a 16-0 run-rule victory over the Pioneers. Earlier this season, Barrett recorded her 200th career strikeout. Barrett allowed two hits, both coming in the first inning. Barrett said it was a rewarding moment of the season, accomplishing a season milestone.
The Lady Spartans capitalized on eight miscues by the Pioneers, scoring 15 of their 16 runs in the second inning. Chloe Steele led Emporia High, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Steele said she’s gaining confidence at the plate.
Mackayleigh Arrington and Barrett each drove in two. Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said it was great to take care of business.
Emporia High (7-14) plays its final game of the classic at 2 p.m. Saturday against Life Prep.
