A man who allegedly led a four-county law enforcement pursuit ending in Lyon County earlier this month is currently facing charges in one of the counties.
Jose Espinoza-Carbajal, age 19 of Glendale, Arizona, has been charged in Chase County with two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, as well as two counts of flee and elude and one count of reckless driving. The charges follow what authorities say began with an attempted traffic stop in Harvey County that turned into a chase May 3. The aggravated assault counts indicate Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh and Undersheriff Aaron Hoffman had to flee at one point to avoid being hit by the vehicle Espinoza-Carbajal was driving, tracking with the department’s initial news release saying Espinoza-Carbajal drove off US Highway 50 near Strong City as stop sticks were put across the highway, narrowly missing law enforcement.
A Lyon County deputy ended the pursuit by using a Tactical Vehicle Intervention maneuver, or tapping a back corner of another vehicle with the goal of spinning it out and ending its forward progress.
Espinoza-Carbajal will be in Chase County District Court on May 19 for his preliminary hearing.
