Emporia State men’s basketball coach Tom Billeter announced his second recruiting class on Monday. The class includes two true freshman and six transfers. The freshmen are:
Trey Taylor (Moline, Ill.) – forward, Moline HS: Second Team Class 4A All-State (IBCA) who departed Moline as the winningest player in program history leading the Maroons to a 115-25 record in his four-year career with three regional titles and one state championship.
Jack Weigus (Chicago, Ill.) – guard, Brother Rice HS: All-Conference in the Chicago Catholic League with over 1500 career points while leading the Crusaders to a state championship appearance.
The transfers include:
Mason Jones (Fort Worth, Texas) – senior, guard, East Central (Okla.): Scored 5.6 ppg last year for the Tigers while shooting 42% from the 3-point line as a junior last season.
Andrew Pengel (Rohnert Park, Calif.) – junior, guard, Santa Rosa JC: 23 ppg and 5 rpg last season for the Bear Cubs while dishing 57 assists and grabbing 30 steals.
Trey Redd (Bloomington, Ill) – senior, guard, Maryville: Started 27 of 28 games as a junior for the Saints while scoring 6.8 ppg and averaging 4.4 assists per game on the way to leading the GLVC and finishing ninth in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Olafur Styrmisson (Reykjavik, Iceland) – junior, forward, Regis: Played just nine games due to injury but started last five games of season to help Rangers make the NCAA Tournament while averaging nearly five points and three rebounds per game.
Mason Wujek (Frisco, Texas) – senior, forward, Quincy: Shot 56% from the field for the Hawks last season while hitting nearly 50% of his 3-pointers for the Hawks.
