The latest round of scam toll payment texts is underway now, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation and Kansas Turnpike Authority.
The Turnpike Authority has been victimized for over a year as scammers use texts claiming random residents owe money for unpaid tolls and then include a bogus payment link as part of the text. KDOT has also been warning residents about the scam for the past several months, reminding people it does not collect tolls for any road and will not use texts as a prompt for payment. Both entities also say they will never send unsolicited texts.
Residents receiving scam messages are urged to delete them and report them as junk. If you have provided payment information, reach out to your bank or credit card company immediately.
