A Lyon County jury has found a Wichita man guilty of speeding, but not of much more serious crimes after a law enforcement pursuit and a fatal crash in Lyon County over two years ago.
The jury found Adonis Dailey not guilty of vehicular murder and not guilty of flee and elude during a short trial in Emporia this week. Dailey testified he felt compelled to flee troopers from the Kansas Highway Patrol because his passenger and eventual crash victim, Kejuan Shugart, threatened Dailey with a gun and told Dailey not to stop for the trooper. The presence of the gun was never confirmed.
Dailey was charged after a chase reaching speeds of over 125 mph before Dailey’s car crashed into the back of a semi.
