The Emporia High track and field teams finished third and fourth at the Centennial League Championships in Junction City on Thursday.
The Lady Spartans finished third with 111.50 points. Paige Newland won two league championships. Newland won the long jump with a personal best 18-8.25 and won the triple jump with a mark of 38-3.25 Kaylee DeWitt won the 300m hurdles in 50.63. Elise Eckert finished second in 100m hurdles (17.08), while Molly Rusco finished third (17.58). Eckert also claimed a runner-up finish in the 300m hurdles (51.77). Micah Huber finished second in the pole vault (8-0). The 4x100m relay team of Reagan Thompson, Harley Smith, DeWitt and Newland finished third (50.52) while the 4x400m relay team of Thompson, DeWitt, Samantha Scobee and Izabela Hinst finished third (4:25.16). The 4x800m relay team of Emma Beattly, Amelia Lowery, Ivanna Orduno and Juliana Rodriguez also took third (10:52.21). Rusco finished third in the triple jump (32-4.25). Smith finished third in the 400m (1:03.14).
The Spartans finished fourth with 68 points. RJ Tabares finished second in the 110m hurdles, setting a school record with a time of 14.65. Tabares finished third in the 300m hurdles (40.93). Chance Duncan earned three second place finishes in the discus (145-7), shot put (45-4.25) and the javelin (159-9).
Emporia High will travel to regionals next Thursday at Andover. The top three finishes plus next top four results from all four regionals will qualify for state.
