Flint Hills Technical College celebrated local and area childcare providers with its second annual Childcare Summit recently.
Program Director and Early Childhood Education Instructor Nancy Robinson says the event has several goals in mind. At the top of the list: recognizing childcare professionals for the work they do.
This year’s event focused on STEAM, or science, technology, arts and math activities, thus giving providers ideas on activities they can use at their locations and also potential field trip opportunities.
The gathering is held in May to honor Childcare Provider Month. It also comes with an ongoing provider shortage both locally and nationally, even with the opening of Little Lyons Childcare last fall.
Attendance was heavy, with over 80 childcare providers, service providers and others associated with childcare on hand. There were also nearly 30 vendors attending, more than double last year’s amount.
