While we have moved out of flu season, the same cannot be said for seasonal allergies.
Lyon County Health Officer Dr Ladun Oyenuga says a lot of people are suffering this time of year.
Dr Oyenuga’s recent appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show followed word from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America indicating Wichita is the “most challenging place to live with seasonal allergies,” followed by New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Memphis. The report looks at annual pollen scores, use of over-the-counter allergy medications and the availability of board-certified allergists and/or immunologists. It also looks at different kinds of pollen, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, pollen allergy management and climate change.
Wichita has been named the 2025 Allergy Capital for the third straight year.
Dr Oyenuga, who also suffers from seasonal allergies, urges people to get tested so they know which allergens bother them the most.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation suggests checking the pollen count and adjusting outdoor activities as needed. It also suggests:
*Changing out home air filters often and using High Efficiency Particulate Air filters
*Washing hair before going to bed
*Cleaning laundry after doing things outside
*Consult with your doctor about a daily allergy medication
