Candidate filings are starting to pick up steam with the filing and withdrawal deadline ahead soon.
On Tuesday, Donald Loux filed for Emporia City Commission, joining incumbent Tyler Curtis and potential newcomers Monica Duncan, Denise Gilligan, Aaron Larson, Tammi Ogle and Kurt Steinkuhler on the ballot. Current Commissioner Susan Brinkman has already said she will not seek re-election, while fellow Commissioner Jamie Sauder has not officially stated his plans. Ten candidates are needed for a primary election.
Also, Carissa Wigton has filed for Olpe City Council, joining Justin Steinlage as candidates for the board. Seven candidates are needed for a primary election with the Olpe City Council.
The filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon June 2. If needed, a primary election will be held Aug. 5. The general election is Nov. 4.
