The Emporia High baseball team’s season ended at regionals in Great Bend on Wednesday in a 4-3 loss to Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
Kapaun broke a scoreless game with a run in the third inning and led 2-0 through 3 1/2 innings. The Spartans got on the board as Grady Howe drew a bases loaded walk and an RBI single by Chase Harrington. Kapaun scored two in the sixth. The Spartans got an RBI groundout by Owen Ruge but left a runner on third base in the sixth. The Spartans had the tying run aboard in the seventh but could not tie the game. Ruge took the loss on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and nine strikeouts. Harrington went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Luke Pitman went 2-for-3.
Emporia High finishes its season with a 15-11 record. The 15 wins is a school record in a season. The Spartans graduate Seidl, Ruge, Pitman, Andrew Ruxton and Landon Wohletz.
