Less than two weeks remain before ballots are set for the upcoming election cycle.
Thursday had two filings for school boards, including longtime Emporia school teacher Barb Fowler for USD 253 board. Fowler spent over 40 years in the classroom before retiring three years ago, becoming Emporia’s first National Board Certified teacher, a Kansas Master Teacher and Emporia State Distinguished Alum along the way.
Fowler joins incumbents Lillian Lingenfelter and Jami Reever on the ballot. Incumbent Jennifer Thomas has not announced whether she plans to run for re-election. Seven candidates are needed to set up a primary for USD 253 board.
Separately, incumbent Perry Petersen has filed for re-election to USD 251 North Lyon County District 1 Position 4. Petersen is the first candidate to file for any of the USD 251 board positions. Seven candidates are needed to set up a primary for those seats.
The filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon June 2. If needed, the primary election is Aug. 5.
