A big weekend is in store for the Sertoma Club of Emporia.
Sunday will mark the official 100th anniversary celebration at Soden’s Grove, and club member Terri Summey — a guest on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday — says it made sense to combine the celebration with the start of the miniature train season.
To that end, Team Schnak founders Kent and Natalie Schnakenberg will cover the costs for everybody to ride the train — and not just for Sunday. Kent Schnakenberg explained on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday:
Besides the opening of the train season, the club will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new pergola, designed to protect patrons from rain and from wayward baseballs coming in from the Soden’s Grove baseball field. Other activities Sunday include free hot dogs and other refreshments and activities through the Emporia Recreation Commission.
Activities go from 4-8:30 pm.
