Emporia High has its next girls basketball coach, and it’s a familiar leader to the program.
Emporia High Athletics announced Wednesday that Bill Nienstedt has accepted an offer to be the next girls basketball coach for the 2025-26 season. Nienstedt’s hiring is pending board approval by the USD 253 Board of Education, which will next meet on June 11.
Nienstedt guided the Lady Spartans for 12 seasons and stepped down in 2013 due to health issues. Before his first stint at Emporia High, Nienstedt spent 10 seasons at Lebo guiding the Wolves to state championships in 1994 and 2001 and spent six seasons at Central Heights. Recently, Nienstedt guided the Madison girls basketball team for two seasons before stepping down in 2024.
Nienstedt replaces Taylor Scott, who resigned after one season with a 4-17 record. Nienstedt inherits a team that will return four starters. Nienstedt will make his return to the Emporia High sidelines, leading the Lady Spartans on December 5, hosting Lansing.
