The ballot for USD 251 North Lyon County school board is filling up as the filing and withdrawal deadline approaches.
Incumbent Josh Hamlin has filed for re-election to USD 251 District 2 Position 5, while incumbent Rusty Heins filed for re-election to District 3 Position 6. Incumbent Perry Petersen filed for re-election to District 1 Position 4 last Thursday.
Earlier this week, incumbent Ryan Gasche became the first candidate on the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Position 2 ballot. Fellow incumbent Melissa Carson is the only candidate on the Position 3 ballot, and the district does not have a candidate yet for Position 6.
Also, Reading Mayor Malonne Davies has withdrawn from that race, leaving no candidates on the ballot for that position.
At this time, there are not enough candidates to force an Aug. 5 primary election in any of Lyon County’s races for school board, City Commission, City Council or mayor. State law says there needs to be three times the number of candidates for a given position — plus another candidate — to set a primary.
Lyon County Clerk Amie Jones will discuss the election during KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Friday. The filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon Monday.
