It’s go time for the Flint Hills Rodeo.
Activities begin Thursday evening in Strong City, kicking off three days of rodeo action. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia this week, Rodeo Board President Buck Bailey says he’s proud of the rode and what it means for Strong City and Chase County as a whole.
Board Treasurer Dow Wilson says rodeo participants are busy this time of year, but they always put the Flint Hills Rodeo on their calendars.
Board member Stacy Davis is excited for the next few days.
Saddle bronc, bareback, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding, barrel racing and women’s breakaway roping are coming — as is ranch bronc for the very first time. Board member Craig Hatcher:
Roger Mooney is serving as rodeo announcer, while Cervi Championship Rodeo is providing all the stock for the rodeo. Arena Director Adam Hilton says rodeo is adjusting to a culture that increasingly demands a lot of action in a short amount of time.
*Thursday is Kids Night, where youngsters up to age 12 will get in free of charge. 6 pm is when the Trade Show and Kids Stick Horse Rodeo begin, with the rodeo beginning at 8 pm.
*Friday is Military Appreciation Night, with free admission for any active and retired military service personnel with a military ID. The Friday schedule is similar to Thursday’s, although slack begins at 8 am and the cowboy/cowgirl dance begins at 10 pm
*For the finale on Saturday, the annual rodeo parade is at 2 pm. The Trade Show and Stick Horse rodeo begin at 6 pm, with the rodeo at 8 and the dance at 10 pm.
