Emporia Fire had a busy Wednesday night. Fire crews were called to two reported structure fires, although there was no fire with either incident.
Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the first call was to 1533 Merchant shortly before 11:45 pm. Firefighters discovered a faulty air handling incident at that address.
Fire crews then went to Horizon Plaza’s fourth floor at 1531 Wheeler just before 2 am, finding a piece of burnt toast had tripped the fire alarm. Residents on the fourth floor self-evacuated as firefighters ventilated the space.
