Lyon County Commissioners could consider signing a resolution establishing a new joint task force with other taxing entities as part of their weekly action meeting Thursday morning.
Lyon County Counselor Molly Priest will present the resolution that, if approved, would convene a task force of representatives from the county, City of Emporia, USD 253 Emporia Public Schools and the Emporia Recreation Commission. The task force would be charged with researching alternative strategies to help provide mill levy reduction for the city and county.
The city of Emporia has already approved the resolution with USD 253 Emporia Board of Education members set to consider the same item as part of their regular meeting Wendesday. Commissioners will also consider several items on behalf of Emporia’s Imaginarium, including a resolution certifying the county to apply to the Kansas Department of Commerce for a Community Development Block Grant, a resolution assuring KDOC funds will be continuously provided and a resolution to accept an inter-local agreement between the county and Imaginarium.
Commissioners will also consider adding agenda and minutes management software to the county’s website, receive a presentation from Community Corrections Director Erin Rodriguez, consider a quote of more than $178,000 for engineering services, and consider the latest round of 2026 budget allocation requests.
The meeting will begin at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
