For the last five years, the annual Truckin’ For Tucker 5K has been, literally, truckin’ along and gaining steam both in terms of participation and support.
Saturday, the Lyon County Anderson Building hosted the fifth annual installment of the fundraiser supporting the Tucker Lee Everyone Plays Fund, which supports participation in sporting activities by providing youth with financial aid for fees, equipment and other needs. The event and fund honor Lee, who passed away back in 2021 following a battle with NUT Carcinoma. Lee was known and is remembered for his passion for sports and belief that everyone should have access to athletic activities, hence the creation of the Everyone Plays Fund, which has helped to support more than 50 children across the local area.
Organizer, and Tucker’s cousin, Jordan Waltz, says the support for the event has continuously grown each year and hit a milestone this year with the largest attendance in its history.
Waltz says word of mouth and the memory of Tucker’s passion for supporting others are likely the biggest contributors to the event’s growth over the years.
According to Waltz, this year’s fundraiser managed to generate more than $6,000 for those efforts. Final fundraising totals are currently pending.
