Sentencing is next for Russell Paul Patterson Jr after his motion for a new trial in a Lyon County sex abuse case was denied.
Patterson’s defense attorneys were seeking a new trial citing prosecutor misstatements on evidence, alleged prosecutor comments on defendant credibility and prosecutor misconduct on victim testimony. Judge Lee Fowler turned down that motion Tuesday morning.
Patterson was convicted in April on single counts of rape, commercial exploitation and aggravated human trafficking involving a then-17-year-old victim this past July. Sentencing is set for June 23 and an appeal appears likely.
7 am Tuesday: Patterson requesting new trial in Lyon County child sex abuse case
Sentencing is ahead next week for a man convicted of several forms of child sex abuse. Before that, though, Russel Paul Patterson’s defense team will ask for a new trial.
Defense attorneys will present the motion as part of a hearing at 9:30 am Tuesday, citing prosecutor misstatements on evidence, alleged prosecutor comments on defendant credibility and prosecutor misconduct on victim testimony.
Patterson was convicted in April on single counts of rape, commercial exploitation and aggravated human trafficking involving a then-17-year-old victim this past July.
Depending on how Judge Lee Fowler rules, sentencing is on the docket for June 23.
