An Emporia man faces life in prison after reaching a plea agreement in a Sedgwick County child sex abuse case.
John Robert Burton was originally charged with single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties after alleged activity with a child under the age of 14 when he was arrested in June 2023. Burton pleaded no contest to aggravated indecent liberties right before jury trial was supposed to start. The rape count was dismissed.
Burton will be sentenced July 31.
