After over a year, traffic is fully reopened on all sections of Prairie Street once again.
Traffic resumed at 18th and Prairie early Friday afternoon, signaling the end of the 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project, which began in early June 2024, installing over two miles of new pipe and creating over 30 new service lines and other connections. With the 24th and Prairie project now complete, attention will fully shift to the Southeast Transmission Waterline project, which began last month.
Initial work zones included Seventh from Garfield to Sunnyslope and also from Garfield to Arundel. Over the next several months, work will stretch from 12th and Garfield to Emporia’s water tower near South and Carter.
Emporia City Engineer Jim Ubert will discuss both projects when he joins KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment at 8:40 am Tuesday.
