A jury trial date has been set in a Lyon County criminal case involving charges of rape and other illegal sexual activity.
If the current docket schedule holds, Luis Jalpa-Sena will have trial start Sept. 15. Trial could last that entire week.
A motion hearing Aug. 15 and a trial status hearing Sept. 10 are the next hearings after a pretrial conference Friday. Several motions were presented Friday, including a defense motion for a filing deadline extension and state motions for a prime jury trial setting — meaning one option for a trial start date instead of several — as well as motions to preclude Jalpa-Sena from admitting any evidence of prior sexual conduct by a complaining witness and to halt Jalpa-Sena from offering evidence of drug and/or alcohol use by both complaining witnesses.
Jalpa-Sena is accused of raping a 16-year-old who was unable to give consent due to the effects of alcohol he allegedly provided to the teenager and another underage individual. He is officially charged with one count each of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
