Scams tend to run in spurts, and it’s time for another flurry of texts allegedly from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The texts say people need to pay outstanding traffic tickets and say KDOT will take several steps if payments are not completed by the close of business Monday, including:
*Reports to the “DMV” violation database
*Registration suspension starting June 25 and driving privilege suspension for 30 days
*Unspecified transfer to a toll booth for a 35-percent service fee
*Potential prosecution and alleged negative impacts on credit scores.
The texts also have a payment link included.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is telling people to avoid the alleged payment link, instead reaching out to law enforcement if you think you have outstanding tickets. If you have questions about possible scams, call local law enforcement.
