Emporia High graduate Madden Seidl has changed his plans on where he’ll continue his baseball career.
Seidl announced Wednesday that he will continue his career at The University of Kansas. Seidl had previously been committed to play at Cloud County Community College in Concordia. Seidl said he hasn’t been able to process the fact that he’s committed to being a Jayhawk, knowing the offer came last week.
Seidl was a second team All-Centennial League selection as a pitcher this past spring, helping Emporia High to a 15-11 record. The 15 wins are a school record in a single season. Seidl made seven starts on the mound for the Spartans, going 3-2 in 38 1/3 innings pitched, allowing 27 runs, 17 earned, 26 hits, and 54 strikeouts with a 3.10 ERA. Seidl is currently playing for the Kansas Curve and was discovered last Thursday in a game in Wichita. Seidl said he’s fortunate he’s getting an opportunity to play at a Power 5 school.
Seidl was a 3-sport athlete at Emporia High, playing baseball all four years, and football and basketball for two years. Seidl was voted as KVOE’s Emporia High Emporia Main Street Male Athlete of the Year in May. Seidl said he’s excited to be a part of a program that’s rising.
Seidl will be joining a KU program that finished second in the Big 12 this past spring and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
