The Sertoma Club plans to restart its miniature train season this weekend.
Club President Vicki Brooks says it’s been just about a month since the train last operated for the community.
Sertoma Club members worked with the city for official approval to get into Soden’s Grove Park. Then they contracted with Brady Parks Rock & Dirt for the repairs.
Brooks says 2019 was the last time the track had similar damage.
Damage was mainly to the ballast or gravel supporting the track, although several ties were washed away. Most of the damage came from the flooding that started June 3. The train itself was lifted so it was spared from any flood damage.
Train hours are 6:30-8:30 pm Sundays, as well as Wednesdays and Saturdays. The train also runs from 9-11 am Thursdays. Rides are free through the summer, thanks to a donation from Kent and Natalie Schnakenberg. After several birthday parties at the train had to be canceled due to the flooding, Brooks says birthday parties are once again available.
