A Lyon County jury says Adam Jay Hrabik is guilty of trying to kill a police officer over four years ago.
The jury convicted Hrabik on single counts of attempted capital murder and aggravated assault, use of a deadly weapon, after Hrabik shot two people in Lyons in October 2020. Hrabik was charged after shooting Lyons Police Officer Cory Ryan several times, leading to critical injuries before Ryan improved. Hrabik was also charged after shooting Brian Friess, a former teacher and coach of Hrabik. Friess was seriously injured but also survived.
The jury got the case Thursday and rendered its verdicts Friday morning. Trial started Monday, concluding a week earlier than scheduled.
Sentencing is Aug. 21 in Rice County. Previous plans had trial taking place in Ellis County before a Kansas Supreme Court order moving the case to Lyon County.
