The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office continues to go above and beyond in protecting local motorists when it comes to various traffic enforcement efforts. And, once again, those efforts have been recognized at the state level.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Sheriff’s Office had received the 2025 Kansas Department of Transportation Community Traffic Safety Platinum award. The award is presented each year to law enforcement agencies across the state that demonstrate excellence in improving and maintaining traffic standards within their community.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says the office has been recognized many times with this award, and others, noting that the office strives to be as involved in these initiatives as possible.
Furthermore, Koelsch believes the department’s willingness and dedication to putting on programs outside of the state initiatives is a big reason why they are on the state’s radar for this honor each year.
Koelsch tells KVOE News that while the sheriff’s office is recognized by the award, it’s truly the community that deserves the praise for embracing the message these activities strive to promote.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office earlier this week, there were some notable achievements for the agency this year when it comes to traffic enforcement including the arrest of 32 individuals for driving under the influence, over 265 vehicle wreck investigations and the issuance of over 700 citations for speeding, seatbelt and other violations just to name a few.
