Short-term, area residents have three potential rounds of thunderstorms between noon Monday and early evening Tuesday. Isolated severe weather is possible with all three rounds.
Longer-term, aside from Wednesday and Thursday, there are storm chances just about all week.
The Storm Prediction Center has marginal risk areas affecting all area counties for Monday and for Tuesday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are the main hazards both days.
The National Weather Service expects one round of possible storm development for early afternoon through mid-evening Monday, followed by a second potential round before sunrise Tuesday morning and a third potential round for the mid-afternoon to early-evening hours Tuesday. The Weather Service also says weak forcing mechanisms will likely limit storm coverage Monday afternoon and evening, with uncertainties about early Tuesday based on how far south storms push out of Nebraska and additional uncertainties about how the atmosphere may recover Tuesday afternoon and evening after any early storm activity Tuesday morning.
The severe weather risk to start the week follows isolated thunderstorm activity early Sunday morning and late Sunday afternoon. The KVOE studios had 0.05 inches of rain for the day, while Emporia Municipal Airport only reported 0.03 inches of rainfall Sunday morning and nothing for the afternoon round. Other totals:
*Kansas Highway 99 at Lyon-Greenwood county line: 0.85 inches
