One person was taken to Newman Regional Health after a two-vehicle wreck in a construction zone near Emporia on Monday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened at 7 pm on the Kansas Turnpike about a mile southwest of the Emporia tollgate. Troopers say a car driven by 60-year-old Varghese Mani of Olathe and a semi driven by 48-year-old Joshua Greene of Batchelor, Louisiana, were both northbound in a construction zone. As the two-lane construction zone merged to one lane, troopers say Mani cut off Greene before the lane closure and hit the semi, with the car spinning out and hitting the center barrier wall.
A passenger in Mani’s car, 52-year-old Mariyamma Varghese of Olathe, went to Newman Regional by private vehicle with complaints of pain. No one else was hurt.
