Orange cone season in Emporia has construction work taking place literally across town.
Several notable projects are overlapping at this time, including Street Rehab and Concrete Street Repair. On KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, City Engineer Jim Ubert says most of Street Rehab Phase 1 is done.
In fact, work is set to begin this week on 18th between Industrial and Prairie on Thursday. This will be a 3-to-5-day project involving milling, sweeping and asphalt overlay.
Ubert says the number of streets involved varies from year to year.
Besides West 18th, this year’s list includes:
*West Ridge Court: West Ridge Drive to Timmerman Drive
*Trail Ridge Road: Tomahawk Road to 15th Avenue
*8th Avenue: Walnut Street to West Street
*E. Wilman Court: Rural Street to 18th Avenue
*Cottonwood Street: 2nd Avenue to railroad and South Avenue to 1st Avenue
*Sylvan Street: South Avenue to railroad
*Walnut Street: 12th Avenue to 15th Avenue
*Grand Street: 9th Avenue to 12th Avenue
*Alternate: Soden Road: Commercial Street to Zoo Education Center
Concrete Street Repair, meanwhile, has 10 street segments on the list, including Weaver between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks and West Sixth. Saw cutting began Tuesday, with concrete tear-out to follow.
Other streets:
*15th Avenue (Lincoln Street to Lawrence Street).
*West Ridge Court and South Parkway Court Intersection.
*Monterey Drive approach at Coronado Avenue.
*Montezuma Court approach at Coronado Avenue.
*Montezuma Drive approach at Coronado Avenue.
*Rio Vista Drive approach at Coronado Avenue.
*18th Avenue at East Wilman Court.
*18th Avenue at Center Street.
*Del Oso Drive (Curb and Gutter)
This project is designed to remove or refresh what the city calls deteriorated concrete.
