Residents may not notice much of a difference for the annual Kicks for Kids shoe giveaway through Grace United Methodist Church next month, but there is a big change coming.
Pastor Debbie Rogers says the event will still be first-come, first-served, but there is a greater emphasis on shoe and financial donations this year.
Rogers also serves congregations in Americus and Olpe.
Grace United Methodist handed out close to 500 pairs of athletic shoes at no cost last year.
This year’s event is Aug. 2 at the church. The event will also include free dental fluoride treatments from CareArc and free eye screenings through the Emporia Lions Club.
