Sentencing is ahead next month for an Emporia man initially accused of raping a teenager better than four years ago.
On Friday, Erik Alvarez accepted a plea agreement that changed the single count of rape to one count of indecent solicitation of a child to commit or submit to an unlawful sexual act. Lyon County Attorney Amy Aranda says the plea was reached after consultations with the victim and the victim’s family.
The charges reflect activity in January 2021 involving a person who was 14 years old at the time. Alvarez must register as a sex offender as part of the plea.
Sentencing is Aug. 29.
