Fundraising went well for the third annual Lolapalooza block party in downtown Emporia on Saturday.
Proceeds — just under $5,000 worth — go to the Street Cats Club Lola Love Fund so residents who typically can’t afford spay and neuter services can get their cats fixed. Street Cats Club founder Victoria Partridge was grateful for the fundraising support and glad to see steady turnout for the event.
Partridge says the Lola Love Fund was started after a local woman wound up with way more cats than she could handle.
In addition to learning about Street Cats Club and the work it does for stray cats, including spay and neuter, trap and release and foster opportunities, residents could also enjoy several food trucks and vendor booths as well as cornhole and other activities. Kids also had several bounce houses to enjoy.
With Lolapalooza now wrapped up, the Street Cats Club is now looking ahead to the third annual Black Cat Ball on Oct. 18 at the Emporia Granada Theatre. Partridge says calls for sponsors and auction items will take place over the next week, with ticket sales to begin shortly afterward.
