The Flint Hills Regional Council will receive $1 million in federal funding during an event Friday.
The Regional Council was announced as a recipient of a US Environmental Agency Brownfields grant several weeks ago. The Revolving Loan Fund grant will provide up to three loans and two subgrants to foster cleanup activities in Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties in the KVOE listening area, as well as Geary, Pottawatomie and Riley counties. Funds will also help to set up the revolving loan fund, support community engagement ventures and market the program to affected areas.
Specific sites for area counties have not been divulged.
The city of Emporia and Lyon County both were involved in the Regional Council but have not been associated with the body for several years. However, Alma, Alta Vista, Council Grove, Eskridge, Harveyville, Wabaunsee County and White City are all represented in some capacity at this time.
