Not every position is full, but Council Grove Reservoir has a critical piece of its summer employment plan in place.
The US Army Corps of Engineers confirms a full-time ranger position has been filled, following a hire to fill one of three seasonal positions announced last month. Unlike the June announcement, which opened up several parts of the lake to the public, the Corps has not confirmed new adjustments reflecting staffing. It has, however, updated its list of areas closed for a variety of reasons as of July 1:
*Canning Creek: Areas 1-5, 18-19, 26-28. Closed due to high water
*Santa Fe Trail: Areas 1-13. Closed due to high water
*Kit Carson. Closed due to staffing shortage and high water.
*Richey Cove. Closed due to high water
Numerous areas of the lake were closed on a temporary basis as part of a a federal hiring freeze at a time when the permanent and seasonal positions were all opened. Council Grove Reservoir got an exemption two months ago.
