Emporia Fire is investigating after a reported structure fire in downtown Emporia from around midnight that led to an arrest.
Crews were called to 10 West Grill and Dive Bar, 10 West 11th, right around midnight and found no active fire, but Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says there were unspecified signs of a past fire at that address and Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer says the fire was put out by staff.
Meanwhile, following collaborative work with Emporia Police, officers arrested 26-year-old Uriel Sevilla of Emporia around two hours later on suspicion of aggravated arson. Beemer says the investigation is “active and ongoing,” but initial investigative work points to a set fire.
Formal charges are pending against Sevilla.
Formal aggravated arson charges are also pending against 30-year-old Mitchell Lindsey, accused of setting a small kitchen fire at 132 West 12th late Thursday night.
