Council Grove Police Chief Shawn Wangerin says a Topeka man drowned at Council Grove City Lake on Saturday night.
Wangerin says officers received a report of a potential missing person or drowning near 124 Scenic Circle at the lake. Emergency crews were dispatched and conducted a “rigorous search,” but they found 66-year-old Mark Moore of Topeka dead about two hours after the initial emergency call.
Numerous entities responded, including officers, Council Grove Fire/Rescue, Morris County EMS, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Herington Rescue, Morris County deputies and Morris County Emergency Management.
Council Grove City Lake is about two miles west of Council Grove Reservoir.
